Easter festivities may have ended, yet how can one forget the classic deviled egg? This simple and quick dish is so tempting that you should not wait for Easter or Thanksgiving. The fancy-looking eggs are one of the best appetizers for parties and picnics. They are flavorful, healthy, and low-carb.

This blog is inspired by the nostalgia associated with the Easter preparations. Cooking the creamy yolk-filled deviled eggs chicks with vibrant garnish has been my favorite part of the preparations. It was hard to resist them and was the first to disappear. Here is our no-frill, timeless deviled egg recipe…

Deviled egg ingredients –

Deviled eggs do not need any fancy ingredients. The hard-boiled eggs pooped out yolk, keeping the white part intact, mixed with herbs, chives, mustard, rice vinegar, mayonnaise, salt, and black pepper would make a creamy filling. This yolk is piped into the egg’s cavity and sprinkled with paprika.

Boiling the egg:

Put the raw eggs in a medium pot; add cold water to cover it. Heat the water to boil for 10 minutes.

After 10-12 minutes, plunge the eggs into another ice-cold water-filled bowl. This step ensures three benefits- it stops further cooking, quickly lowers the temperature, and makes the shell come off clean.

Take the eggs out on your kitchen counter and roll them between your palm and the counter to peel.

Deviled egg filling:

To make deviled eggs, divide hard-boiled eggs into halves; scoop out the yolks in a bowl. Make sure to keep egg white intact. Add the salt, pepper, yellow mustard, rice vinegar, mayo, dill, herbs, and chives to the mashed yolks.
If you find the filling runny, blend mashed potatoes or a couple of teaspoons of baby cereals to make it manageable.

Substitute for mayonnaise in deviled eggs

If you are short of mayonnaise or fear its flavor may overpower the filling or make runny filling, the following substitutes work on an even keel.

  • Greek yogurt
  • Sour cream
  • Avocado
  • Hummus

FAQ

Why are my deviled eggs not creamy?

The amount of mayonnaise is responsible for the consistency of the filling. Additionally, some recipes call for adding cream cheese or butter to improve its texture.

Why do people put vinegar in deviled eggs?

Apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar adds tartness to the recipe. It also balances the richness of yolks and mayonnaise.
