Easy cream cheese biscuits
Ingredients
2 cups self-rising flour
1 stick or 4 tablespoons cold butter (unsalted or salted)
5 ounces cream cheese (cold and cubed)*
Instructions
Step 1- Preparation
Preheat the oven with an oven rack in the middle to 450 F. Line a baking tray with a parchment sheet for flawless baking results.
Step 2- Combine ingredients
In a large bowl, grate the cold butter in flour and put in cubes of cream cheese. Smash them together with a pastry blender into a crumbly mix.
Step 3- Shape and bake
Prepare the work surface. Sprinkle a little flour on the workstation before transferring the dough to it. Dust flour on your hands as well.
Knead the dough softly for about one minute or until everything comes together. Fold the dough. Repeat the process many times to create layers. Add more flour if needed, to prevent it from sticking to your hands and work surface.
Roll the dough into ¾- inch thick rectangle. Cut 2-inch squares or your desired shape using a cookie cutter and place them on a baking tray. Be sure they are at least 1 inch apart to give them enough space for spreading out.
Brush butter on top of the biscuits for browning.
Bake for roughly 14 minutes.
Remove the biscuits from the oven once they have puffed and golden edges. Brush them with melted butter.
Serve biscuits hot or at room temperature with butter or jam for breakfast. These are so versatile that you can also serve them for dinner. If you love experimenting with flavors, top the biscuit with crushed sea salt sprinkle peri-peri mix, or simply a blend of cinnamon powder and powdered sugar.
Storing the leftover cream cheese biscuits:
By any chance, if you have a couple of biscuits left; store them in a sealed container.
